TOP 3 Dog Treat Recipes That Will Sweeten Your Holiday Season!!

Would you like to bake dog biscuits? Christmas is cookie season. During the Christmas season, the oven is working overtime, and we look forward to delicious cookies. So that our four-legged friends don't miss out, we'll share the tastiest recipes for baking your own dog biscuits. Why baking dog biscuits is a great idea! The great thing about homemade dog biscuits is that you can tailor them to your own dog. This means you can also make dogs with chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, or dogs with allergies happy. Another advantage of baking dog biscuits is that you can individually vary the size. They are also free from sugar, coloring, flavorings, and preservatives. Baking your own dog biscuits: What you can use! In principle, you can let your creativity run wild when baking dog biscuits. However, the following foods are particularly well suited for homemade dog biscuits. Meat Fish Vegetables Fruit Dairy products Nuts Eggs Grains Order freshly prepared food for your dog now and save! Bello's tip: Attention! When choosing the ingredients, you should be sure to check that your dog does not have allergies to any of the ingredients. For example, if your dog cannot tolerate gluten, you can use buckwheat flour, corn flour, or rice flour for baking. Be careful, these ingredients must not be used! Not everything that is healthy and delicious for humans is equally good for dogs. Some foods that you probably have at home can harm your dog and lead to digestive problems and poisoning. Therefore, you should never use the following foods for baking dog biscuits. Onion Garlic Aubergine Raw potato Tomatoes Raisins/grapes Raw legumes Avocado Spices Baking powder Chocolate/cocoa powder Sugar Macadamia nuts Good to know! The symptoms of food poisoning in dogs are varied. Possible symptoms include: loss of appetite, dehydration, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, tremors, and excessive drooling. Bello's tip: Cooked potatoes, in particular, are very healthy for dogs, as they are a good source of vitamin C, vitamin B6, iron, and magnesium. That is why they are a common ingredient in dog food – and especially in freshly prepared dog food, where they provide your four-legged friend with all the important nutrients they need for a healthy and long life, in combination with other valuable ingredients.Potatoes are also a great base ingredient for dog biscuits, as the starch in potatoes holds the dough together well. Our top 3 best dog biscuit recipes! Recipe 1: Dog biscuits with fresh food You will need: 250 g flour 120 g oats 250 g (HelloBello) fresh food 125 ml water 1 egg Whether Ringeltanz, Gockelspeis or Cowgenuss, your dog will surely enjoy the treats of every variety. Here's how: To bake healthy dog biscuits, mix the freshly prepared dog food with flour, oats, egg, and water. If the dough is too runny, you can add a little more flour or oats. You can shape small cookies from the dough or roll out the dough and cut out various shapes. Small dog bones or other animal shapes work particularly well. Bake the cookies for 40 minutes at 160 degrees. Tip:  Depending on how thick you roll out the cookies, the baking time may vary slightly. We recommend shaping the cookies about one centimeter thick. Recipe 2: Potato beef dog biscuits You will need: 1 pack of HelloBello Cowgenuss cooked and mashed potatoes Here's how: Purée the food with a fork or mixer and mix in the mashed potato until the dough can be easily shaped. Place half a teaspoon of the mixture on each piece of baking paper and flatten it with a spoon. Then bake the dog biscuits at 150 degrees for about 20-30 minutes. Afterwards, let them cool completely and feed them to your beloved pet. We hope you enjoy baking them! Recipe 3: Banana sponge dog biscuits You will need: 1 banana 1-2 carrots 200 g flour 100 g fine oats 50 ml sunflower oil Here's how: Finely grate the carrot and mash the banana with a fork. Then mix all the ingredients together to form a smooth dough. If the dough is too dry, you can add a little more water. Roll out the dough on a floured work surface to a thickness of about 1 cm. You can cut the dough into small squares or cut out various shapes. Then bake the dog biscuits at 180 degrees for about 20-30 minutes. The banana sponge dog biscuits will keep for about 3 weeks. Baking your own dog biscuits: How long do they keep and how should they be stored? The most important thing with homemade dog biscuits is that they dry out well. The drier the biscuits are, the longer they will keep. Since homemade treats do not contain preservatives, there is a risk that they will mold or spoil faster than store-bought biscuits. Whole-grain biscuits will keep for up to three weeks if stored correctly. After baking the dog biscuits, it is best to store them cool and in a tin cookie box or a cardboard box. Airtight containers are not well suited for storage, as there is a risk of mold. Dog biscuits with meat or fish must be stored in the refrigerator and will only keep for a few days. Alternatively, you can freeze the biscuits in portions and thaw them when needed. This way, they will keep for several months. Bello's tip: At HelloBello, your dog eats regionally, because origin matters to us!Our menus are not simply a few mixed ingredients. We know exactly where every single carrot, spinach leaf, and piece of meat comes from.Behind every menu are numerous people who work hard and with love to ensure that our dogs can eat only the best.

As the name suggests, they were used for badger hunting, but were also employed in hunting foxes and hares. Their compact bodies are perfectly suited for tracking small game underground and flushing it out of its burrow. A Brief History of Dachshunds The dachshund was bred specifically for the task of flushing badgers out of their burrows and driving game away. This form of hunting is called driven hunting. It can also reliably track injured game. Its compact size and courageous nature enabled it to move successfully through narrow burrows. It left the standing and attacking to the larger dogs. Originally bred for badger hunting, the dachshund played a crucial role in the history of gundog breeding in Germany. Its ability to navigate narrow burrows and drive game away made it an indispensable helper for hunters. Over time, however, the image of the dachshund changed, and today it is known and valued not only as a gifted hunter but also as an affectionate and adaptable pet. Today, dachshunds are often kept as companion dogs because of their charming appearance and loyal nature. Still very popular in the 1970s, the number of dachshund puppies born has steadily declined since then. A few years ago, it was even said that the breed was on the verge of extinction. And unfortunately, it is true that other dog breeds are now more popular than the German dachshund. This is probably also because hunting with them no longer appeals to people. However, breed clubs are fighting against the claim that the breed will soon disappear entirely. Dachshund Puppies: Meet the Dog with the "Dachshund Look" The characteristic body shape of dachshund puppies is unmistakable: Their slender build, combined with a proud head and a long, muscular back, makes them a unique dog breed. Dachshunds come in various coat types, including wire-haired, long-haired, and smooth-haired dachshunds, each with its own charm. These small but sturdy companions have an average lifespan of about 15 years and reach a shoulder height of about 30 centimeters. The maximum weight of a fully grown dachshund is usually around 12 kilograms. These dimensions, combined with their friendly nature, make them not only capable hunting dogs but also wonderful family members. The FCI distinguishes not only between the three coat lengths but also classifies three different types of dachshunds based on their chest circumference: Dachshund Miniature Dachshund Rabbit Dachshund The first is the largest and the last the smallest representative of the dachshund. This is also a small peculiarity: Height at the withers plays less of a role in dachshunds; instead, the chest circumference is decisive. This is the measurement that is crucial for entering fox and badger burrows. Almost any color is allowed, except for solid white or black coats. The American Kennel Club also allows merle-patterned animals in its standard, but the FCI excludes them. HelloBello- The Best Nutrition for Your Dachshund Dachshunds are a very special dog breed – charming, intelligent, and full of energy, but also with specific nutritional needs. Due to their long backs and compact stature, they are prone to joint and disc problems (e.g., IVDD), which is why a healthy diet is essential to keep their weight optimal and strengthen their muscles. HelloBello Fresh Food is the perfect choice for dachshunds and dachshund puppies because it is made from high-quality, fresh ingredients that are specially tailored for healthy digestion, strong bones, and a shiny coat. Unlike dry food, it contains no artificial additives, preservatives, or fillers, which often lead to allergies and stomach problems in small dogs. HelloBello is also gently cooked, so all important vitamins and minerals are preserved – this not only supports the immune system but also ensures a long, active life. A customized diet is especially important for dachshund puppies to optimally support their growth without overfeeding them. With HelloBello, you can adjust the portion size precisely, so your dachshund gets the perfect balance of nutrients – from puppyhood through old age. Thanks to the regional, sustainable ingredients and convenient delivery right to your door, feeding your dachshund will not only be healthier but also easier than ever before. Your dachshund will love it – and you will see the difference in its vitality, shiny coat, and energy!  The dosage of food for dachshunds is crucial, as they are prone to obesity. This also applies to treats! Dachshund puppies in particular should be given treats sparingly to maintain a healthy weight and avoid potential health problems. Monitoring their diet is important to ensure that your dachshund can lead a healthy and active life. If you are unsure about their nutrition, a veterinarian is the best place to go for individual advice. The Dachshund Temperament – An Attentive, Friendly Companion Generally, dachshunds are considered very friendly and sociable. They love it when they are not the only four-legged friend in the house and can play, wrestle, and lounge with their own kind. However, caution is advised with larger dogs. Dachshund puppies develop their characteristic self-confidence early on and like to show you, their owner, and other dogs who is boss. This trait is necessary during hunting, for example in a badger burrow. There they are out on their own and have to make their own decisions. And they are really very good at it, don't worry. Did you know …?Dachshunds have a very good sense of smell. This, along with their small body size, is one reason they were used as explosives detection dogs during World War II, for example. Today, dachshund puppies are trained for work with customs, for example. In hunting, they are very good at tracking wounded game. Thanks to their keen nose and proximity to the ground, it is unlikely that they will lose the trail. Dachshund Exercise – A Great City Dog, But More Nature Than a Strip of Green, Please! Dachshund puppies are suitable for small city apartments. Of course, they will be very happy to have their own garden. But it is not a must. Although dachshunds are also suitable for older people, provided they are able to train them and not let their dog walk all over them. But despite their small size, dachshund puppies require a relatively large amount of exercise. A short walk along the green strip of the street is not enough. Dachshund puppies have good endurance. They can and sometimes want to go on long walks. Therefore, a certain amount of time and mobility on the part of the dog owner is required, as well as the opportunity to walk for half an hour or even an hour at a time. With their little legs, the dachshunds then trot along happily and enjoy every minute in the fresh air. If there are no power demonstrations to be made, they are happy with almost every dog they meet. The Dachshund's Self-Image – The Confidence of a Bear Similar to, for example, Chihuahuas, who like to compensate for their lack of body size with incredible self-confidence, dachshunds are also prone to this. This can lead to confrontations with other dogs in everyday life. Because the dachshund puppy sees itself as a huge bear, while the German Shepherd sees itself as only a snack. As the owner, you must start early in teaching your little one that it is not worth confronting every other dog. You think you are the one in charge here? You think today is going to be a different way of walking? Not with dachshund puppies! Depending on its mood, it will undermine your authority and show you which way is better. If it is in such a phase, you must be just as stubborn and stick to your way. Otherwise, your dachshund puppy will think it can always do that. Order fresh-cooked food for your dachshund now and save! How do I train a dachshund – training the charming stubborn dog Dachshund puppies need to be trained early. And not with an iron fist, but with loving discipline. Their own will doesn't always make it easy. That's why it's very useful if you already have experience with dogs. If you approach the matter correctly, dachshund puppies are quite willing to learn and are even happy when they can develop further. But! You will never achieve your dachshund fully recognizing you as the top pack leader. It will repeatedly try to do its own thing. Because dachshund puppies sometimes have a real problem sticking to firm rules of conduct and hierarchies. It is even repeatedly claimed that they can only be poorly trained. That is not true, basic training is possible in any case. The only question is whether your dachshund puppy is currently in the mood to accept and apply what has been learned. Fortunately, not every dachshund is so stubborn. Exercise – sports with a dachshund puppy? Yes, even dachshunds are suitable for agility. But what do you need to consider with dachshund puppies if you want to do sports with them? The basic requirement is that the little body must first be allowed to develop. At about one year, the skeleton has solidified enough that you can slowly introduce your dachshund puppy to this sport. Whether you and your four-legged friend really enjoy it will show. If not, you will surely find another great activity together. However, in addition to physical sports, mental sports should also be on the agenda. Dachshund puppies are not necessarily satisfied with just two walks a day. They also want to be challenged and encouraged at home, for example with small intelligence and search games.  Where can you buy a dachshund puppy? As you have already learned, dachshunds are no longer so common. The prices also depend on the number of puppies per litter, but you should expect to pay around 800 to 1500 euros for a purebred dachshund. The popularity of these charming dogs has led to them becoming sought-after pets, which is reflected in the prices. If you are thinking about bringing a dachshund into your family, you should research carefully and make sure you are ready to take on the responsibility of caring for and training this lovable companion. It is best to look for breeders directly through a club and its directory. Then you can be sure that the dachshund puppy you want to buy comes from a reputable breeder. For example, the Bavarian Dachshund Club founded in 1893 e. V. and the German Dachshund Club 1888 e. V. have a breeder directory. Wolfgang Maurer Ready to give your dog a healthier and longer life? Can dogs eat cherries?

Can dogs eat cherries? Yes, dogs can generally eat cherries. They are even healthy and you can make a really good snack for your four-legged friend out of them! The difference between sweet and sour cherries is also not important in this case. What do I need to pay attention to when feeding my dog cherries? Is your favorite eating cherries for the first time? Give your dog a few cherries at first (1-2) and check if he reacts allergically to them. You can recognize a cherry allergy by swollen mucous membranes and/or itchy areas on the skin. Do not give your dog cherries too often. If he eats fruit occasionally and tolerates it well, your dog is already taking in healthy ingredients. Always feed cherries pitted. Make sure that the cherries are fresh, ripe and well washed. The only dangerous thing are the pits.  Cherry pits can be toxic. They contain cyanide, also known as prussic acid, which can lead to cyanide poisoning with severe symptoms if ingested (the same applies to peach, plum and apricot pits). But here too there is a relief:  Cherry pits are only toxic to dogs if they are bitten and then swallowed. Whole cherry pits are not digested and are therefore excreted as such, so the prussic acid cannot enter the body. Bello's tip: Our HelloBello dog food was developed by veterinarians and contains high-quality, fresh ingredients, which are gently prepared at low temperatures in an elaborate production process. This keeps the valuable vitamins, trace elements and nutrients intact. Order freshly cooked food for your dog now and save! Are cherries suitable for young dogs? Cherries are a real superfood. They contain vitamins A, B, C and E, as well as folic acid, calcium, potassium, magnesium and iron. In the body, they support the immune system, connective tissue and the skin, stimulate digestion and help build teeth and bones.Anthocyanins, the pigment of cherries, act against free radicals and help to a certain extent against cancer and cellular aging. How can I tell if my dog does not tolerate cherries? Cyanide is a very fast-acting acid and enters the mitochondria in the body, which are responsible for energy production. These require oxygen among other things to provide energy. If prussic acid reaches the mitochondria, the respiratory chain is stopped and the cells suffocate internally. The dog's body reacts to the lack of oxygen with an increased breathing rate, among other things. However, for this case to occur, your dog would probably have to eat a lot of cherry pits. Cherry pits can therefore also be toxic. 1-2 mg/kg of body weight can be fatal. This means, the smaller your dog, the lower the amount of cherry pits your dog can tolerate. In any case, cyanide poisoning in dogs is an emergency and should be treated by a veterinarian as quickly as possible. Symptoms of poisoning and misdiagnosis Typical symptoms of poisoning are shortness of breath and gasping, bitter smell of breath, redness of the mucous membranes and conjunctiva, dilated pupils, vomiting, seizures, unconsciousness and sometimes epileptic seizures. The symptoms vary depending on the amount of cyanide ingested and do not all have to occur simultaneously. Especially the bitter smell of breath is a sign of prussic acid poisoning. However, 30%-40% of people do not perceive the bitter smell due to genetic reasons and thus do not recognize cyanide poisoning. Therefore, you should also check the other symptoms in case of suspicion and act quickly and go to the veterinarian as a precaution. Read also: Stay away from toxic foods for dogs Healthy summer snack: Dog ice cream with cherries If you follow these points, you can treat your dog with cherries anytime. Just like us humans, our four-legged friends also love a cool refreshment in summer. This is exactly the right time to make a cherry ice cream for your dog: Put some cottage cheese, quark or plain yogurt in the blender (depending on what your dog likes to eat) Add 2 pitted, ripe and washed cherries You can also add some oats and/or coconut flakes Blend everything until you get a more or less uniform consistency and the red color of the cherries is well distributed Portion everything into appropriate units. For this, a Kong is particularly suitable. Conclusion: Can dogs eat cherries? In the end, it remains up to every dog owner to decide. Generally, dogs can eat cherries.  But too many cherry pits can be toxic. If you notice that cherries do not harm your dog, you can be sure that he is taking in valuable and healthy ingredients with the cherries.

Can dogs eat grapes? Deadly danger or harmless?

Let's get this straight. No, dogs must definitely not eat grapes! Even small amounts of grapes and raisins can be fatal to dogs! It doesn't matter whether the grapes come from your own garden, are seedless, red, or green, or whether they were grown organically – simply put, all types of grapes are toxic to dogs, and can even be fatal. The same applies, by the way, to all foods that contain grapes or raisins. Raisins are even more toxic than grapes in the same quantity.  In dried form, the fruit contains less water and more toxic content. Order freshly cooked food for your dog now and save! Why are grapes toxic to dogs? Unfortunately, there is no single opinion on this. There is also no consensus on how grapes affect the dog's body. However, it has been observed that grapes can cause acute kidney failure. It is safer to keep grapes and raisins out of your dog's diet. Bello's tip: Our food was developed by veterinarians and contains high-quality, fresh ingredients that are gently prepared at low temperatures in a sophisticated production process. This preserves the valuable vitamins and trace elements and provides your furry friend with all the important nutrients. At what quantity do grapes become toxic to dogs? There is no safe amount, as even small quantities can cause serious health problems, such as kidney failure, in some dogs. As a guideline, however, even 10 grapes can be toxic for a 5 kg dog. However, grape poisoning varies from dog to dog. If your dog accidentally eats 1–2 grapes, nothing serious should happen in most cases. Read also: Can dogs eat cherries? Can dogs eat bananas? How to recognize grape poisoning! The insidious thing about grape poisoning is that the symptoms occur in three phases. If dogs eat grapes, action is definitely required in the following symptoms: Phase 1: The critical first 24 hours! Vomiting is the most common and first sign of grape poisoning. The symptom occurs within the first 24 hours. The dog's body tries to avoid more severe poisoning by excreting the remaining grapes. Vomiting is often accompanied by loss of appetite and lethargy , listlessness (apathy), as well as diarrhea. Phase 2- The following 24 hours After the described signs, no further symptoms often appear. You might think that the dog has already metabolized the poison and there is no longer any danger. However, this is where the greatest risk of serious illness exists. Phase 3 - Signs of fatal kidney failure From day 3, symptoms can occur that indicate fatal kidney failure. These include: Reduced to no urine production The breath smells like urine Vomiting Diarrhea Cramps Trembling In kidney failure caused by poisoning, the blood is no longer filtered sufficiently. The blood pressure rises sharply and there is a lot of urea in the blood. If the dog stops urinating, the blood becomes so contaminated that the survival of the animal is highly unlikely. The listed signs already indicate acute kidney failure, but it is not said that it is already too late. In any case, you should seek a veterinarian immediately at the latest now. This is how to treat grape poisoning properly! If your dog has eaten grapes within the last one to two hours, your veterinarian will induce vomiting. Subsequently, activated charcoal is often used. This absorbs the toxins and is excreted by the dog. In some cases, the veterinarian gives infusions, which can also last two to three days. A longer stay may be expected.

Everything You Need to Know About Easter Eggs for Dogs

Every year when Easter is just around the corner, the search for chocolate bunnies and eggs begins all over again. And we can also make the Easter season extra special for our dogs and let them join in the fun. We have put together everything you need to know about it. Table of Contents Eggs as Dog Food Eggshells for Dogs Preparing Eggs Properly Easter Egg Games for Dogs And What Else There Is at Easter Eggs as Dog Food Eggs are highly valuable, nutrient-rich, and also tasty food. Their protein is particularly high-quality, and they are low in purines. So there is no reason not to let your pet take part in the Easter egg hunt. The egg yolk is particularly rich in fat and contains many essential fatty acids, fat-soluble vitamins, and also biotin. Eggshells for Dogs Eggshell is an excellent natural source of calcium. It is present as inorganic calcium carbonate and is very well available to the body. But be careful: Your dog must not eat dyed Easter eggshells! If you want to feed the undyed eggshell once, please wash it thoroughly with hot water beforehand. This removes any potentially adhering bacteria. You can also dry the shell in the oven and then grind it. The calcium powder is extremely high-quality and long-lasting. ATTENTION: Calcium can also be overfed! If your four-legged friend already eats a perfectly balanced dog food, you should not add much more calcium. Otherwise, they will have a calcium excess, which can lead to problems such as bone spurs. For your information: 100g of eggshell contains 37,000mg of calcium. Try HelloBello and save on your first delivery! Preparing Eggs Properly Dogs love eggs, and they even get a beautiful coat from them. However, it is important to feed the eggs boiled or cooked. Otherwise, poisoning and digestive problems can quickly occur. Although the risk is greatly minimized by today's controls (e.g. for salmonella) in our chicken coops, better safe than sorry. Raw egg white also contains a trypsin inhibitor, which inhibits protein digestion, and avidin, which binds biotin. So from this point of view as well, it is better to heat the egg before consumption. This does not apply, however, if you only want to feed the yolk. Easter Egg Games for Dogs Egg Nudging Of course, there should be plenty of fun at Easter too. One game that every dog is sure to enjoy is "egg nudging". You only need a regular egg and small treats. For clumsy and mischievous four-legged friends, you can hard-boil the egg beforehand to prevent any accidents. Have your dog sit and place the egg in front of them. Place the treat underneath or in front of the egg as best as possible. To get the reward, your dog has to gently nudge the egg away with their snout. You can repeat this step a few times until you are sure they have understood the task. At the next difficulty level, the treat is no longer under the egg, but the dog only gets it after nudging. It is important that they get the reward immediately after nudging the egg. Gradually, you can then combine the trick with the word "nudge". In the long term, of course, you can develop the trick even further, the possibilities are endless. For example, you can build a small slalom course through which the dog nudges the egg. Or you can vary the objects – the main thing is that it can be rolled well. Dogs love being challenged, which also has a positive effect on your bond. Order fresh-cooked food for your dog now and save! Cracking Eggs Another fun activity for your dog is a soft-boiled egg in the shell. Cracking it requires skill, is fun, and sometimes also looks funny. And this "toy" also provides your dog with valuable nutrients.Tip: Some of our four-legged friends have especially much fun throwing the egg into the air and jumping around it. Then it is often better to try this fun game outdoors or in a garden – unless spring cleaning is already on the agenda anyway. And what else there is at Easter At Easter, of course, eggs are not the only thing on the menu. But are there more "Easter traditions" that the dog is also allowed to eat? For many people, spicy, freshly grated horseradish, savory bacon, and an Easter sweet bread are just as much a part of it as the eggs. But these very foods are not recommended for our pets. The horseradish is too spicy, the bacon too savory, and the Easter sweet bread too sweet. Special caution is also required here with other "sweet bread types" such as the Carinthian Easter Reindling. Because raisins are usually processed in the dough. Raisins can lead to massive kidney failure in dogs. For the sake of completeness, it should also be said that chocolate in any form must not be fed under any circumstances! Whether it is a chocolate egg or a chocolate bunny – anything with theobromine is forbidden. It is a neurotoxin and leads to severe poisoning in dogs. Anyone who still wants to pamper their dog on Easter Sunday can fall back on lean, rather unseasoned ham. A piece of smoked meat is also certainly allowed once in a while. As mentioned above, the undyed Easter egg is also a special, fun surprise for your pet. In this spirit: HAPPY EASTER AND STAY HEALTHY! Dr. Eva Schmal-Filius
